The Philosophy Behind the Formulas
Opening
I personally create every formula by integrating principles of Perfume Therapy, herbalism, homeopathy, and Spiritual Psychology.
To me, a formula is far more than a collection of ingredients.
In Perfume Therapy, fragrance is never added simply because it smells pleasant. Every aromatic profile is intentionally selected as an archetype that corresponds to the purpose of the formulation. Fragrance becomes an active part of the formula, working alongside the botanical ingredients to support not only the physical body, but also the emotional, mental, and spiritual dimensions of the person using it.
I believe beauty is not a luxury. It is one of the languages through which healing speaks. The fragrance, the texture, the ritual, the experience — every detail matters, because beauty has the power to change the way we feel, the way we remember, and sometimes even the way we heal.
“My name is Damaris Nightingale. People often ask me, ‘How do you know?’”
How I See
For many years, I struggled to answer that question myself.
Then I realized something.
I don’t seek patterns. I simply see them.
I naturally perceive relationships, analogies, and common threads where others often see separate ideas. Whether I am creating a botanical formula, studying consciousness, listening to someone’s story, or designing a fragrance, I instinctively see how the parts relate to the whole.
That way of seeing has shaped my entire life.
A Lifelong Calling
As a little girl, I was already creating formulas and asking questions about the meaning of life, consciousness, and the nature of our existence. If you asked me how I got into this, I would probably tell you that I was born to make healing lotions, beauty products, and natural perfumes.
Long before Scented Potions became a company, my home contained a small laboratory where I spent years creating potions, lotions, perfumes, herbal preparations, and remedies for family and friends. It was never simply about making products.
It was about understanding people.
Where Disciplines Meet
Although I spent more than thirty years building a career in Information Technology and corporate leadership, I was never simply working with technology.
I was studying systems.
Technology taught me that no system can be understood by looking at a single part in isolation. The same is true of people.
My academic background reflects two complementary ways of exploring reality. I hold a PhD in Metaphysics and Spiritual Psychology, and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science with studies in Statistics.
One taught me to value evidence, structure, and measurable relationships. The other encouraged me to explore the questions science has not yet fully answered.
I have never believed these perspectives are in conflict.
I believe discovery happens where disciplines meet.
The Philosophy Behind Every Formula
That belief has guided every aspect of my work.
At Scented Potions, we create original aromatherapy, herbal, homeopathic, and natural formulations for everyday health and beauty concerns that may not always respond well to conventional approaches.
Every formulation begins with the same question:
“What does this person truly need?”
Sometimes the answer lies in the herbs. Sometimes in the aromatic profile. Sometimes in the ritual of using the product. Most often, it lies in understanding the relationship between them all.
I don’t believe people are collections of symptoms waiting to be managed.
I believe every person is an intricate interaction of body, mind, emotions, memories, beliefs, relationships, environment, and spirit.
You are not one thing. You are an entire constellation.
The Larger Picture
Everything I have studied — from technology and statistics to herbalism, perfumery, psychology, metaphysics, consciousness, and human behavior — has been part of one lifelong pursuit:
Understanding what it means to be fully human.
I have always been more interested in possibility than limitation.
- Some people see boundaries. I naturally see bridges.
- Some people see separate disciplines. I naturally see the threads connecting them.
For most of my life, I was encouraged to choose one path, one discipline, one way of understanding the world.
I couldn’t.
Not because I lacked direction, but because I could already see the relationships connecting what others experienced as separate.
I have learned that not everyone sees the world the way I do, and that’s perfectly all right. Each of us contributes a different perspective to the whole. Mine has always been to recognize the hidden relationships that connect what others often see as separate.
I know how to color inside the lines. I simply don’t believe the lines define the whole picture.
If something here resonates with you, perhaps it is because you, too, have always sensed that we are more connected, more complex, and more beautiful than our categories suggest.
Welcome.
